The weather has continued to be very mild. Christmas was sunny & glorious, but rain after New Year was most welcome. Unlike other parts of Europe, it has been very dry here.
I’ve been waiting for all the leaves to fall from my apples, but today decided I must get the espaliers pruned. Now their second year, so pruning for the second row:
My salad bed has been very rewarding. We had 10 people in the house over the Christmas week & it kept us in supply the whole time.
The next lot in another bed is also growing well. Milder weather certainly helps!
Garlic is sprouting well. Perhaps a bit too fast for this time of year?
and second set of fava beans (broad beans) are sprouting .
Carrots Touchon and Italian red onions are growing slowly – Brussels in the background still producing successfully & spinach Geant d’hiver is growing nicely in the foreground.
Forecast of some below zero temps for next week. I think we need the cold to kill off any bugs, so I hope it does materialise. The weather the world over us very strange this year….
